What Can You Do About A Chronic Headache ?
Most of the time when you get a headache it will eventually go
away. If you have a tension headache caused by stress, it usually subsides if you take some time out and just relax for a
short while. Even people that have had migraine headaches can be diagnosed as having infrequent occurrences that do not need anything
more than a couple of pain killers and perhaps anti-inflammatory drugs as medication.
But occasionally you can get a chronic headache – a headache that just does not seem to want to
go away; this just might be a danger sign. A chronic headache can sometimes be the sign of other things happening that could possibly be as
dangerous as a brain tumour. A chronic headache may not only affect your life but it could also affect the lives of friends and relatives
as you become more and more difficult to be with as you get more of these chronic headaches.
It is unusual, however, for tension
headaches to become a chronic headache: tension headaches are usually tied directly to stress in your life and perhaps other
outside stimuli that you may be experiencing. It may also be the case that you are taking in too much sugar, and this could be causing what
you think are chronic headaches, but in fact they are just your body reacting to something happening in your life.
One of the best ways to find out why you keep getting chronic headaches that could be, and feel
like, tension headaches is to talk with your doctor. This is very important. It could be that you have too much stress in your life; and
chronic headaches can lead to other physical ailments. There could also be other physical problems having a chronic headache as a
side-effect, so please talk with your doctor.
But Some Headaches Really Are Chronic
Medical science is not yet sure what actually causes headaches; there is, however, enough data
for them to be able to tell between a migraine headache and other types of headache. Migraines usually come in two types. There are
the migraines that can be treated as they occur and are not recurring; and there are migraine headaches that could be classified as chronic
headaches and should be under a doctor’s care.
For many sufferers of chronic migraines the only answer is to accept treatment through
medication from your doctor. Different patients react differently to some medications, so for the more severe migraine cases doctors will
usually mix medications so as to reduce side effects.
Doctors still do not completely understand headaches. Tension headaches are the easiest to
understand, and the easiest to treat; it is fairly clear what has brought them on. However for certain types of chronic headaches, and
stronger types of headaches, there is still much research that needs to be done on what causes them and how they may be treated.
